Unbound Youth Ministries is a faith-driven community initiative devoted to empowering South African youth through holistic development — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In partnership with ZealSurf, we offer young people the opportunity to learn Stand-Up Paddle Surfing as a tool for transformation.

The Challenge We Face
Poverty
Economic hardship limits opportunities and access to positive activities for youth.
Unemployment
Lack of job prospects creates hopelessness and vulnerability among young people.
Crime
Without guidance, youth are drawn into negative social behaviors and dangerous activities.
Lack of Mentorship
Absence of positive role models leaves youth without direction or support systems.
South African youth face severe challenges. Unbound's ZealSurf Initiative seeks to counter these issues through a structured SUP program that develops life skills, discipline, and community responsibility.

SUP Training & Equipment
Access to Stand-Up Paddle training with paddle boards, wetsuits, and life jackets provided to all participants.
Water Safety Education
Comprehensive training in water safety and ocean respect to ensure confident, responsible ocean engagement.

Education on plastic recycling, ocean conservation, and sustainability through hands-on entrepreneurial projects.

Meet Our Founders
Des Terblanche, along with his wife, Elmarie, and their two children, a family man who loves nothing more than being outdoors with them. As a family they have invested to serve in Unbound Ministries, and their heart for serving others!
Des brings a wealth of experience from years in missions and pastoral work, but his greatest motivation comes from a life-changing truth: the ocean saved his life. With over 40 years of surfing, he found purpose and hope in the waves. Today, his goal is refreshingly simple. Using his love for stand-up paddleboarding (SUPping), he wants to create opportunities for others to fall in love with the sport, too.
As a family, the Terblanches are happiest outdoors, especially by the ocean, and they enjoy SUPping together. Des shares his heart simply: "I want to share that experience with every young person — to show them that there is more to live for, and that they are deeply loved."
